Henry Scott Holte, a Washington native born in Seattle, grew up in the 1950s and 60s in small town Americana so accurately depicted in Steven King's novels. Mr. Holte comes from a family of storytellers, where the line between truth and fiction was blurry at best. He has always enjoyed reading and writing, and after a sojourn from college obtained his B.A. in English from the University of Washington. Mr. Holte also studied English literature in graduate school and then switched to the study of law, graduating from U.W. School of Law.
Mr. Holte enjoyed a career as a civil trial lawyer for twenty five years, walking both sides of the street, sometimes seeking money for his clients and other times trying to keep money for his clients. He handled all manner of civil lawsuits, including will contests, which is the legal conceit for The Crab Trap. For the past fifteen years Mr. Holte has served as a skilled mediator and arbitrator.
For most of his professional career Mr. Holte has been involved in access to justice for the less fortunate. He has been a member of several organizations providing civil legal aid to the indigent, and formed Snohomish County Legal Services, serving as Board President for many years. Mr. Holte was the first recipient of the Washington State Bar Association's Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award.
Mr. Holte lives on Hat Island, a private retreat in Puget Sound, with his beautiful wife Turie, and is often found in the company of a very spoiled Golden Retriever or Vizsla. He enjoys well aged single malt scotch, leisurely travel around the south of France, fishing and crabbing in Puget Sound, and exhibiting culinary expertise in the kitchen or on the grill.
